[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Josel Gina] Chung Euisun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, was selected as the 'Top Innovator' by the American current affairs weekly Newsweek on the 12th (local time).

Newsweek announced on the same day at the 'Great Disruptive Innovators in the Global Automotive Industry' awards ceremony that Chairman Chung would receive the 'Visionary of the Year' award. This award is given to leaders in the automotive industry who successfully draw blueprints for the present and the next 30 years into the future.

Newsweek explained the reason for Chairman Chung's award, stating, "Under his leadership and bold future vision, Hyundai Motor Group is redefining the possibilities of mobility and providing humanity with freedom of movement through electric vehicles, robotics, and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM)." They particularly noted his role in leading innovations in electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and transforming the company's core areas toward the future by acquiring robotics companies.

In an interview with Newsweek, Chairman Chung said, "Since the moment Honorary Chairman Chung Ju-yung founded Hyundai, I have always wanted to create genuinely positive changes in people's lives." He added, "I personally feel a sense of duty to lead change where it is needed. It is essential that those in positions to change the world feel responsibility and fulfill their obligations."

Chairman Chung will attend the '2022 New York Auto Show,' which opens in Manhattan, New York, starting on the 13th, following the awards ceremony in the afternoon.
