[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Kumoh National Institute of Technology in Gumi has been selected as an 'Operating Institution for the 2022 Industry-Academia-Research Platform Cooperative Technology Development Project' by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

This project selects universities and research institutions possessing technology, personnel, and infrastructure in new industry fields such as manufacturing, bio, and future transportation as operating institutions to support companies with innovative capabilities.

The selected operating institutions discover early-stage innovative companies and support them to enhance their capabilities and secure sustainable competitiveness through industry-academia-research cooperative R&D.

A total of nine institutions (five universities and four research institutions) were selected this year, and up to 4.5 billion KRW per institution will be supported until 2024.

Kumoh National Institute of Technology will serve as an operating institution in the smart manufacturing field, playing a role in joint technology development, R&D, and strengthening technological capabilities through joint research projects with companies.

Based on this, the plan is to establish a platform based on win-win cooperation with large companies in the Gumi National Industrial Complex, such as Samsung Electronics and LG Display, to strengthen the competitiveness of local small and medium-sized enterprises.

Song Gwang-seop, head of the University SME Industry-Academia Cooperation Center, said, “We expect that customized support for companies in four fields?smart ICT, AI, robotics, and design?will further strengthen the region’s smart manufacturing competitiveness.”
