Transition Team Holds Meeting with Tourism Industry "Long-term Damage Must Be Prevented... Will Find Solutions"

[Asia Economy Reporter Myung-Hwan Lee] The Presidential Transition Committee announced that it will seek ways to prevent prolonged damage to the tourism industry, which has been struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

On the 12th, the Social Welfare and Culture Subcommittee of the Presidential Transition Committee held a meeting with tourism industry officials at the committee's office in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, and made this announcement.

Officials from the Korea Duty Free Shop Association who attended the meeting stated that the competitiveness of Korea's duty-free industry, once ranked number one in the world, is weakening and requested national-level support. Officials from the Korea Hotel Association, who were also present, proposed institutionalizing support benefits for newly hired personnel as a measure to restore the domestic hotel industry's ecosystem.

In response, representatives from the Transition Committee said, "We will seek ways to prevent prolonged damage to the domestic duty-free and hotel industries."

The meeting was attended by Kim Do-sik, a transition committee member of the Social Welfare and Culture Subcommittee, expert members Seung Jae-hyun and Kim Dong-won, and working-level members Kang Dong-jin, Moon Seung-hyun, and Shin Dan-a.
