[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] On the 12th, the National Police Agency announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) to "establish a Korean-style policing system and activate international development cooperation projects in the public security sector."

The main contents of the agreement signed that day include ▲discovering projects under the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) linked to the National Police Agency's grant aid projects ▲providing technical advice and information sharing from the National Police Agency on EDCF projects in the security sector ▲enhancing effectiveness and sustainability through linking EDCF projects and the National Police Agency's grant aid projects. The two organizations plan to select the "Angola Security Enhancement Project" as a priority cooperation project and implement it within this year.

KEXIM operates and manages the EDCF entrusted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and is a representative export credit institution supporting Korean companies' overseas expansion. KEXIM plans to enhance the effectiveness of official development assistance projects by having the National Police Agency implement the "Center Response Personnel System Operation and Crime Prevention Technique Training Project" at the '113 Reporting Center' in Luanda, Angola, which was completed in 2020 with $44 million provided by the Ministry of Economy and Finance through the EDCF.

Kim Chang-ryong, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, said, "Taking this cooperation with the EDCF as an opportunity, we expect to further activate international development cooperation projects in the security sector and achieve tangible results by exporting Korean-style policing systems and equipment." Visit Kyoo, President of KEXIM, stated, "We will discover EDCF projects with high security improvement effects by utilizing the National Police Agency's expertise and know-how, and contribute to improving security in developing countries through effective project execution and enhancing sustainability."
