[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, is proactively injecting an emergency reserve fund of 250 million KRW to support the purchase of duty-free fuel for fisheries, aiming to stabilize the management of fishermen who are struggling due to the surge in fuel prices such as gasoline and diesel caused by the Russia-Ukraine situation.

According to the county on the 12th, the support targets fishermen residing within the jurisdiction who have been issued duty-free fuel cards for fishing vessels, aquaculture management vessels, and approximately 500 fishing households involved in aquaculture and seed production.

They will support 50% of the increased amount of duty-free fuel used from last month’s 1st to June 30th.

The supported fuel types are the duty-free fuels (diesel, gasoline) allocated to fishermen, with a fixed support of 98 KRW per liter for diesel and 89 KRW per liter for gasoline.

The first application period is until the 13th, and the second is from the 18th to the 29th. Applications can be submitted to the county’s Marine and Fisheries Department and the county fisheries cooperative.

Even if duty-free fuel has been allocated, failure to submit a business application form will exclude applicants from support, so applications must be submitted within the deadline.

A county official said, “This duty-free fuel support is expected to reduce purchase costs by about 10% over four months,” and added, “We expect this to somewhat alleviate the burden on fishing vessels and aquaculture households struggling with rising fuel costs.”
