[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) announced on the 13th that it has signed a "Business Agreement for the Establishment of an Emergency Shipping Channel for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)" with Maersk's digital logistics platform Twill, the world's largest shipping company.
Amid unresolved global supply chain disruptions triggered by COVID-19, unexpected variables such as the Russia-Ukraine war and lockdowns in major Chinese cities have left Korean SMEs still facing severe difficulties in securing shipping space.
Through this business agreement, KITA has secured exclusive shipping space for its member companies in over 300 key Maersk regions including the U.S. West Coast, Europe, Latin America, and Africa. In particular, Maersk Twill will prioritize bookings from KITA members and provide an 'end-to-end' one-stop service from pickup to destination, aiming to minimize delivery delays for Korean companies amid the unprecedented logistics crisis.
Lee Jun-bong, Head of Logistics Services at KITA, said, "As the first case of collaboration with a foreign shipping company to support exports by our SMEs, we hope this agreement will serve as a good opportunity to expand cooperation with other foreign shipping companies." He added, "Given the increasing uncertainties and risks in import-export logistics recently, KITA will continue to do its best to expand shipping space support for our companies."
Meanwhile, detailed information about the "Emergency Shipping Channel for SME Sea Cargo" can be found on the Korea International Trade Association website. For more details, inquiries can be made through the KITA Cargo Reservation Desk.
