[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 11th that it held a signboard ceremony for the Tamjin River Fisheries Research Institute.
The center opened in 2010 as the first ecosystem restoration research facility established by a basic local government.
Since then, it has been responsible for creating biological resources and releasing native fish species in local rivers including the Tamjin River.
The county upgraded the Tamjin River Fisheries Research Center and reorganized it into the Tamjin River Fisheries Research Institute, holding the signboard ceremony on this day.
In 2020, Jangheung-gun completed the 'Kim Superior Seed Production Facility' at the Tamjin River Fisheries Research Center to ensure a stable supply of the local premium brand 'Musan Kim'.
They are currently promoting the development of superior seeds through seed preservation and somatic cell culture of Jangheung Musan Kim seeds, Heungcho No. 1, 2, and 3.
In July 2021, it was registered as a 'Biological Resource Conservation Facility' designated by the Ministry of Environment in recognition of efforts to secure and restore biodiversity.
A Jangheung-gun official said, "By reorganizing the Tamjin River Research Center into an institute and strengthening research functions, we expect to contribute to the conservation and restoration of biological resources of the Tamjin River, including the restoration of the endangered level 2 wild species Geokjeogi, and to improve fishermen's income through the development of Musan Kim seeds."
