[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Woo Beom-gi, a preliminary candidate for mayor of Jeonju, proposed △support for replacing briquette boilers △creation of urban forests as carbon dioxide absorbers and institutional improvements to preserve urban parks, aiming to realize a "Jeonju free of carbon monoxide."

On the 12th, Candidate Woo stated, "Improving the energy usage environment is an essential task that can no longer be postponed amid the climate crisis threatening ecosystems and humanity."

Candidate Woo promised to first promote a support project for replacing briquette boilers by collecting briquette boilers from households using them and replacing them with eco-friendly, high-efficiency boilers such as kerosene or gas boilers.

The support targets include basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, elderly living alone aged 65 or older, persons with disabilities, and single-parent households using briquette boilers for heating.

Additionally, Candidate Woo declared his commitment to strive for institutional improvements so that the central government can support the budget for purchasing urban parks.

This includes budgeting for purchasing private land and implementing land acquisition policies, as well as efforts to establish systems such as signing land use contracts with landowners who agree with park maintenance and providing property tax reductions.
