[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on the 12th (local time) to discuss the Ukraine situation and Western sanctions, according to The Guardian.
President Putin and President Lukashenko will hold talks after visiting the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia's Amur region to mark Cosmonautics Day.
The two leaders are expected to discuss joint responses to the West's collective sanctions. The European Union (EU) and the United States have included Belarus in their sanctions against Russia.
President Lukashenko stated, "Belarus must participate in negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine," and claimed, "Belarus is unfairly labeled as an 'accomplice to the aggressor.'"
TASS news agency reported, "The two leaders will hold a press conference after the talks, but no joint statement will be issued."
