According to this contract, Hanyang University will establish a Department of Semiconductor Engineering and collaborate with SK Hynix to cultivate semiconductor specialists.
The signing ceremony, held via non-face-to-face video conference to prevent the spread of COVID-19, was attended by key representatives from both sides, including Kwak No-jung, President and CEO of SK Hynix, and Kim Woo-seung, President of Hanyang University.
Under the agreement, Hanyang University will establish the 'Department of Semiconductor Engineering' within its College of Engineering and select its first batch of 40 freshmen (24 early admission, 16 regular admission) by the end of this year. Students will complete a customized curriculum jointly developed by Hanyang University and SK Hynix, and be trained as semiconductor experts equipped with specialized knowledge and practical skills related to semiconductors.
Selected students will receive full tuition and monthly academic allowances supported by both the university and SK Hynix, and will be employed by SK Hynix after graduation. Additionally, they will have opportunities to participate in SK Hynix's laboratory internship programs and visits to overseas conferences and research institutes, including Silicon Valley in the United States.
President Kwak said, “We are pleased to join forces with Hanyang University, which has greatly contributed to technological advancement through industry-academia linked education. As the pace of advanced technology development accelerates and demand for talent across the entire semiconductor industry rapidly increases, we expect many of the best semiconductor talents who will shine on the global stage to be produced at Hanyang University.”
