[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Jeong Gwang-ho, chairman of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Livestock Committee of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Council from Sinan, Jeollanam-do, has decided not to run in the June 1 local elections.

Jeong Gwang-ho has been an active member of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Council since the 11th term, serving as a member of the Safety, Construction, and Firefighting Committee and the Special Budget and Accounts Committee. In the latter half of his term, he served as chairman of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Livestock Committee, representing over 340,000 farmers and fishermen, demonstrating more proactive legislative activities than anyone else.

His major achievements include enacting the nation’s first tidal flat preservation and management ordinance and the ordinance on passenger ship fares for island areas. Based on these ordinances, Jeollanam-do introduced the ‘1,000 won passenger ship fare support for island residents’ and, starting this year, has been piloting ‘half-price passenger ship fares for the general public’ for distant islands, continuously expanding the scope and beneficiaries of support for island development.

Chairman Jeong stated, “Although I received many invitations to run in the local elections for the development of Sinan, I will live alongside the residents as an ordinary husband and head of the family.”
