[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 12th that it will provide emergency support in the first phase amounting to 18.2605 billion KRW from national donations to 409 households affected by housing damage and tenant losses caused by the wildfires that occurred on March 4 in Gyeongbuk and Gangwon provinces, through three fundraising organizations.
This donation fund was prepared using 76.7 billion KRW donated by the public to fundraising organizations to support the wildfire-affected areas in Gyeongbuk and Gangwon. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Gyeongbuk and Gangwon provinces, and the three fundraising organizations held three meetings of the Donation Council to discuss the distribution of national donations without overlap or omission. Each fundraising organization also held board meetings to finalize the first phase of emergency donation support.
The 409 households receiving the first phase of donation support include those with housing damage: ▲ 313 households with total destruction, ▲ 5 households with half destruction, ▲ 33 households with partial damage, and ▲ 58 households with tenant losses. By region, there are ▲ 328 households in Uljin, Gyeongbuk, ▲ 74 households in Donghae, Gangwon, ▲ 6 households in Gangneung, Gangwon, and ▲ 1 household in Samcheok, Gangwon. The total support amount from the three fundraising organizations for the first phase is ▲ 52 million KRW per totally destroyed household, ▲ 31 million KRW per half-destroyed household, ▲ 11.5 million KRW per partially damaged household, and ▲ 25 million KRW per tenant household. The funds will be directly deposited into individual bank accounts of the affected households.
Meanwhile, in addition to the first phase of emergency donation support, government support funds for housing damage, to be granted within this week according to the recovery plan, are ▲ 38 million KRW for totally destroyed households, ▲ 19 million KRW for half-destroyed households, ▲ 1.5 million KRW for partially damaged households, and ▲ 9 million KRW for tenants. When combined with the first phase of emergency donation support, the total amounts paid will be ▲ 90 million KRW for totally destroyed households, ▲ 50 million KRW for half-destroyed households, ▲ 13 million KRW for partially damaged households, and ▲ 34 million KRW for tenants.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to use the remaining balance of the 76.7 billion KRW in national donations, excluding the 18.3 billion KRW urgently supported in the first phase, for additional support to the wildfire-affected areas in Gyeongbuk and Gangwon through consultations with fundraising organizations and related agencies.
