[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hankook Tire & Technology (hereinafter Hankook Tire) will supply original equipment tires for the global premium automaker Mercedes-Benz’s ‘S-Class (W223)’.
On the 12th, Hankook Tire announced that it will supply summer tires ‘Ventus S1 evo3’ and ‘Ventus S1 evo3 Runflat’, winter tires ‘Winter i*cept evo2’ and ‘Winter i*cept evo2 Runflat’, and all-season tires ‘Ventus S1 noble2 Runflat’ as original equipment tires for the 7th generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class model.
As the S-Class is a flagship model, it must pass stringent supply conditions when selecting tires. Only tires that meet Mercedes-Benz’s quality standards through up to 50 tests including safety, precision, and comfortable ride quality can be awarded the original equipment tire certification mark ‘MO’. Hankook Tire has been recognized for its superior technology and quality competitiveness beyond the strict standards of the S-Class and will supply original equipment tires to the global market.
The ‘Ventus S1 evo3’ features a high-strength advanced fiber aramid reinforcement belt and a new material called ‘high-purity synthetic silica compound’ to deliver strong grip. Additionally, its ‘interlocking’ groove structure, resembling interlocking teeth, and the ‘in-out dual pitch’ design, which varies the pattern spacing between the inside and outside of the tire, enhance braking performance on wet roads while reducing noise.
The ‘Winter i*cept evo2’ maximizes steering stability and enhances snow driving performance. A special compound combined with an asymmetric block pattern optimizes performance for winter driving conditions.
The ‘Ventus S1 noble2’ applies an asymmetric pattern to provide excellent drainage capability, delivering superior driving performance on snowy or rainy roads. It also uses a silica compound to improve braking performance on wet surfaces, while offering excellent handling and low rolling resistance, providing a comfortable driving experience in any driving environment.
Hankook Tire has once again demonstrated its technological prowess as a global leading tire company by supplying runflat versions of the Ventus S1 evo3, Winter i*cept evo2, and Ventus S1 noble2. Mercedes-Benz certifies runflat tires, which are designed to run up to 80 km/h even when air pressure is lost, with the ‘MOE’ mark.
Runflat tires have a rigid sidewall structure to maintain tire shape even when punctured. Hankook Tire’s runflat tires feature stable handling, excellent braking performance, and low rolling resistance, improving fuel efficiency.
Additionally, for the Ventus S1 noble2 Runflat, Hankook Tire supplies a low-noise tire version equipped with the company’s noise reduction technology called ‘Hankook Sound Absorber’. A polyurethane sound-absorbing pad is attached inside the tire to minimize noise generated by road impact during driving.
Meanwhile, Hankook Tire continues its partnership with Mercedes-Benz by supplying original equipment tires not only for the S-Class and C-Class but also for premium SUVs such as the ‘GLC’ and ‘GLC Coupe’. Furthermore, it is expanding strategic partnerships with global premium brands across approximately 320 models from 46 automakers worldwide, including Porsche, BMW, and Audi, thereby proving its brand value.
