[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of North Korea, attended the completion ceremony of Songhwa Street in the Songsin-Songhwa district of Pyongyang on the 11th, according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency on the 12th.

General Secretary Kim cut the ribbon at the completion ceremony without making a separate speech. The agency reported, "The General Secretary responded to the enthusiastic cheers and warmly blessed the workers who became the owners of the new street and new houses."

Attending the event were Jo Yong-won, Party Organization Secretary; Kim Tok-hun, Premier of the Cabinet; Ri Il-hwan, Party Propaganda and Agitation Secretary; and Kim Yong-hwan, Pyongyang City Party Secretary. Premier Kim, who gave the completion speech, said, "The Songsin-Songhwa district is a great monument of love that has risen persistently with the fiery belief that the work the people desire and await must be accomplished no matter what."

The Songsin-Songhwa district is a residential area in the southeast of Pyongyang and was the first area developed by North Korea with the goal of "building 10,000 houses annually in Pyongyang over five years." The agency described it as "an astonishing miracle of erecting a distinctive large-scale architectural complex of 10,000 households in just one year."
