[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Convenience store Seven Eleven is launching two types of the ‘Jeju Gujwa Carrot Rape Series,’ packed with carrots from Gujwa, Jeju.
According to Seven Eleven on the 12th, the newly released products are ‘Jeju Gujwa Carrot Rape Gimbap’ and ‘Jeju Gujwa Carrot Rape Sandwich,’ featuring the popular ‘carrot rape’ recipe recently trending on social networking services (SNS). The carrot-producing area, Carrot Village in Gujwa-eup, Jeju Island, has regional characteristics favorable for carrot cultivation and accounts for 66% of domestic production. Carrots produced in this area are known for having less fishy odor and high sweetness and nutritional value.
The ‘Jeju Gujwa Carrot Rape Gimbap (2,800 won)’ uses a salad made by mixing carrots harvested from the Gujwa region of Jeju with vinegar, sugar, and whole grain mustard as the main ingredient, balanced with sweet sushi-style rolled eggs for flavor harmony. The ‘Jeju Gujwa Carrot Rape Sandwich (2,800 won)’ uses whole grain bread considering consumers’ health, adding apricot jam to the carrot rape mixed with whole grain mustard to create a sweet and tangy taste. Additionally, fried egg, sliced ham, and fresh romaine lettuce combine with four ingredients and colors to create a colorful harmony. The packaging also features a canola flower design reminiscent of Jeju, which stands out.
Choi Yumi, head of the Seven Eleven Food Team, said, “The products introduced this time utilize the carrot rape recipe that has recently gained popularity through SNS, and we especially expect a good response from consumers in their 20s and 30s. Since we carefully selected ingredients from Gujwa, a representative domestic carrot production area, the products will be perfect not only in taste but also in nutrition.”
