92,931 Confirmed Cases by 9 AM... Below 100,000 for the First Time in 7 Weeks as of Sunday 9 AM

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] As the domestic Omicron variant outbreak shows a clear decline, the number of new COVID-19 cases nationwide dropped sharply below 100,000 as of 9 PM on the 10th.


According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on this day, 92,931 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is 68,079 fewer than the 161,010 cases recorded during the same time period the previous day.


Compared to the count at the same time one week ago on the 3rd (127,892 cases), it is 34,961 fewer, and compared to two weeks ago on the 27th of last month (183,895 cases), it is 90,964 fewer.


This is the first time in 7 weeks since February 20th (93,260 cases) that the number of new cases by 9 PM on a Sunday has not exceeded 100,000. Also, it is the first time in 48 days since February 21st (97,935 cases) that the number of cases by 9 PM was below 100,000. Since there is still time until midnight when the count is finalized, the number of new cases announced on the 11th is expected to be higher than this.


As of 6 PM on this day, new cases were 43,479 (46.8%) in the metropolitan area and 49,452 (53.2%) in non-metropolitan areas. By region, Gyeonggi had 25,006 cases, Seoul 14,247, Jeonbuk 7,197, Gyeongnam 5,082, Gyeongbuk 5,068, Jeonnam 4,450, Incheon 4,226, Chungnam 4,222, Gwangju 3,952, Daejeon 3,677, Gangwon 3,377, Daegu 2,942, Chungbuk 2,803, Busan 2,265, Ulsan 1,782, Jeju 1,533, and Sejong 10,102 cases.
