[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Kim] Among Ukrainian refugees, 84% are women, and 58% of them are accompanied by children.
The German Ministry of the Interior announced on the 10th the results of a survey conducted from the 24th to the 29th of last month on 1,936 Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Germany.
Among the respondents, 84% were women, and 58% of them answered that they were accompanied by children during their flight. Only 17%, mostly elderly women, traveled alone. The average age was 38.2 years. Sixty-five percent of the survey participants entered Germany by crossing the Polish border, followed by Moldova (9%), Romania (7%), Hungary (7%), and Slovakia (6%).
As for their destination, 82% answered Germany. This was followed by Poland, Switzerland, Italy, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. Forty-two percent of respondents are staying in large cities in Germany with populations over 500,000. Among them, 14% are in Berlin, 5% in Munich, and 3% in Hamburg.
The respondents cited "having relatives living there" as the most common reason for choosing their current place of residence. This was followed by ▲recommendations from friends ▲ease of finding jobs ▲preference for living in large cities. Twenty-four percent of respondents were staying at friends' houses, 22% in private homes, and 19% at relatives' houses.
They identified the most needed support locally as ▲financial assistance ▲medical services ▲help when visiting government offices ▲free suburban transportation ▲private homes or stable accommodation ▲contacts who speak Ukrainian.
Germany has decided to guarantee a standard of living equivalent to basic welfare benefits for more than 300,000 refugees from Ukraine. Germany will invest 2 billion euros (approximately 2.67 trillion KRW) to support the refugees.
