[Asia Economy Reporter Song Hwajeong] IBK Industrial Bank announced on the 10th that President Yoon Jong-won returned on the 8th after a 6-day, 4-night business trip to Silicon Valley, where he directly observed the innovative startup ecosystem in the United States and discussed ways to strengthen the role of policy financial institutions in the domestic venture capital market.

He examined the startup growth support know-how of global accelerators such as 500 Startups, which has strengths in global networks and systematic accelerating programs; Y Combinator, known for its strong name value and network; and Plug and Play, which excels as an open innovation platform linking startups and large corporations. Discussions were held on ways to enhance IBK's capabilities in supporting startups.

In particular, an MOU was signed with 500 Startups to jointly provide investment and acceleration for startups and to cooperate in supporting startup growth.

He also visited Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), a specialized venture finance bank, to discuss supporting venture debt based on growth potential rather than collateral or financial indicators. IBK plans to review ways to introduce Silicon Valley-style venture debt adapted to domestic conditions.

Furthermore, through meetings with Korean startups, venture capitalists, and overseas expansion support organizations such as KOTRA active in Silicon Valley, he listened to difficulties faced by domestic companies in overseas expansion and plans to strengthen cooperation with these organizations to support startups entering overseas markets.

President Yoon stated, "Through the Silicon Valley trip, I reviewed the innovative startup ecosystem in the U.S. and discussed cooperation plans with global accelerators to support Korean startups. We will strengthen the role of policy finance to support startups and overcome the 'death valley'."
