[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] On the 10th, Lee Jong-ho, the nominee for Minister of Science and ICT, stated, "I recognize the great importance of semiconductors and will work to develop them."


On the same day, Lee made these remarks in response to reporters' questions about on-site communication at the Presidential Transition Committee in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.


He continued, "Although I have extensive experience and knowledge in the semiconductor field, Korea is not only about semiconductors," adding, "I will examine the sites of all industries, listen to various opinions, and communicate."


Lee added, "I will carefully observe what is lacking and what can be quickly improved to enhance national efficiency."


When asked if there would be any issues during the parliamentary confirmation hearing, he replied, "I cannot predict the confirmation hearing," and explained, "Since my position and that of the opposition party may differ, I will listen carefully and respond sincerely."


Meanwhile, Lee graduated from Kyungpook National University and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in electronic engineering from Seoul National University Graduate School. After working at the Microsystems Technology Laboratories at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he served as a professor at Wonkwang University and Kyungpook National University. In 2009, he joined Seoul National University as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, where he is currently serving as the director of the Seoul National University Semiconductor Joint Research Center. Since 2019, he has been a civilian member of the Special Committee on Materials, Parts, and Equipment Technology.


President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol described Lee as a "world-renowned semiconductor authority" and expressed expectations that he will lead dynamic and innovative advancements in cutting-edge science and technology.
