[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that it is operating a 'School Care Center' in two classrooms at Sangin Elementary School in Sangdong to support after-school care for children of dual-income families.

The School Care Center project, which started in September last year, is a joint project of the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education. Bucheon City was selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's public project in cooperation with Sangin Elementary School and the Bucheon Office of Education.

The city remodeled two classrooms provided by Sangin Elementary School and installed facilities. The operating costs and labor costs of the facility are shared by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and Bucheon City.

The School Care Center covers 70㎡ per classroom, with a total of two classrooms, accommodating 40 children, and is operated on consignment by the Bucheon Education Social Cooperative.

A Bucheon City official said, "We hope that with the establishment of the School Care Center, children can receive one-stop care safely at school," adding, "We will continue to expand facilities where children can be entrusted safely in various locations within the region."
