[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] On the 10th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that it has finalized the selection of 11 support projects for 'Consortium-type Technology Development (R&D),' a multilateral collaboration method where companies and institutions cooperate and integrate technologies to achieve common goals.
Consortium-type R&D is a project that supports large-scale tasks enabling small and medium enterprises to collaborate with large and medium-sized enterprises, universities, and research institutes to pioneer new markets and create high added value.
The Ministry selected 8 projects in the manufacturing sector and 3 projects in the ICT sector through a demand survey.
In the manufacturing sector, projects selected include Micro OLED Plasma Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition (PEALD), Vehicle Semiconductor Open Platform, Vertical Take-off and Landing Personal Air Vehicle (PAV) Motor and Inverter, Vanadium Battery Ion Exchange Membrane, 8K-grade Display Photosensitive Materials, Automotive Equipment Control Black Box, District Heating Smart Accumulated Heat Meter, and AI-based Memory Test Equipment Development.
In the ICT sector, projects selected include Agricultural Drone Data Platform, 5G (28GHz) Metaverse Platform, and AI Industrial Accident Prevention Platform Development.
All projects involve participation from universities, research institutes, and public institutions to perform functions such as technology verification, linkage, and overall project management. This is expected to enhance the efficiency of consortium project management and produce groundbreaking results.
Some projects were discovered based on the demands of large and medium-sized enterprises such as LG Uplus, LG Display, SK Hynix, Hyundai Mobis, and Telechips. During the process, these large and medium-sized enterprises are expected to play roles such as providing mid-term evaluations and feedback on technology development and supporting overseas market expansion.
Each consortium project will receive up to 2.8 billion KRW in support over four years. To ensure successful R&D and commercialization, a specialized project management team from a professional institution will provide close support.
