Russia demanded that the internet encyclopedia 'Wikipedia' delete 'false information' related to the Ukraine situation and warned on the 5th (local time) that it would impose a fine worth 50 million won if this demand is not met.
Russia's telecommunications, IT, and media regulatory agency 'Roskomnadzor' stated through its Telegram account on the same day, "At the request of the prosecutor's office the previous day, we conveyed a demand to Wikipedia administrators to restrict the dissemination of incorrect information."
It added, "Recently, content spreading false information about the Russian military's 'special military operation' in Ukraine and the activities of the Russian military has been massively posted on Wikipedia," and pointed out, "Wikipedia is becoming a new channel for continuous information warfare against Russians."
The regulatory agency further noted that it had previously demanded Wikipedia administrators delete 'false information' related to the Ukraine situation, but the administrators still have not complied. It warned that if this demand is not met, an administrative fine of 4 million rubles (approximately 57 million won) could be imposed.
