Gyeongnam Province and Changwon City Senior Officials Under Suspicion of Repeated 'Golf Entertainment'... Police Investigation Underway

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju Cheol-in] Allegations have been raised that high-ranking public officials affiliated with Gyeongnam Province and Changwon City received golf entertainment, prompting the police to launch an investigation.

According to the Changwon Jungbu Police Station on the 5th, two public officials are undergoing pre-indictment investigations on suspicion of violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act (Anti-Graft Act).

They are suspected of receiving financially inappropriate golf entertainment from businessmen and others at a golf course in Changwon, Gyeongnam, from 2019 until last year.

It is reported that they used aliases to conceal their identities and received VIP-level treatment from business operators, gaining financial benefits.

Under the Anti-Graft Act, public officials and providers who receive or give gifts worth more than 1 million won, regardless of job relevance, are subject to criminal punishment.

A police official stated, “We have received a report regarding the golf entertainment allegations involving high-ranking public officials and are currently verifying the facts.”
