[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Pusan National University finalized the cancellation of admission for Cho Min, the daughter of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, on the 5th.
On the same day, Pusan National University held a faculty meeting in the afternoon and announced the final decision to cancel Cho's admission to the Graduate School of Medicine.
Pusan National University notified the legal representative of the cancellation decision by phone and plans to send written notice to both the party involved and the legal representative.
The university stated, "The admission guidelines announced by the university are a public promise, and it is of utmost importance to comply with them. The guidelines clearly state that submitting false documents will result in admission cancellation. Since the court ruled that the certificate of commendation from Dongyang University’s president was forged or false, we have made the final decision to cancel admission according to the admission guidelines."
This admission cancellation result came one year after Pusan National University reported the investigation plan to the Ministry of Education in March last year.
In August last year, based on the results of an internal investigation by the Admission Fairness Management Committee, Pusan National University issued a preliminary decision to cancel the admission. Subsequently, a hearing procedure was conducted in accordance with the Administrative Procedures Act, and on the 8th of last month, the hearing officer submitted an opinion letter.
Afterward, the faculty meeting deliberated and finalized the disposition plan. The meeting was attended by the university president, deans of colleges, and university headquarters officials.
A Pusan National University official said, "This admission cancellation decision is final. While the majority agreed during the deliberation, there were a few who expressed different opinions."
The university added, "Since canceling the admission of a student who has completed the regular graduate curriculum and already graduated would cause significant disadvantage to the individual, the university, which educated the student and helped them enter society, has given this matter considerable thought."
If Cho does not accept this decision, she may file an objection or administrative lawsuit. Article 36 of the Framework Act on Administrative Procedures stipulates that an objection can be filed with the administrative agency within 30 days from the date of the administrative disposition. Upon receiving the objection, the agency must notify the applicant of the result within 14 days. Additionally, regardless of the objection, administrative appeals or lawsuits can also be filed.
Cho enrolled in the Department of Environmental Ecology Engineering at Korea University in 2010 and was admitted to Pusan National University’s Graduate School of Medicine through early admission in 2015, but her admission was canceled after seven years. She passed the national medical licensing examination in January last year and worked as an intern at Hanil Hospital.
Attention is also focused on whether the Ministry of Health and Welfare will revoke Cho’s medical license. Even if a medical license has been issued, if the degree is canceled, the qualification for the medical license cannot be maintained.
