원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Jeong-wan] Kim Ki-hyun, floor leader of the People Power Party, sharply criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, which on the 5th announced a thorough scrutiny of Prime Minister nominee Han Deok-su, calling it a "complete comedy."
On the morning of the 5th at the National Assembly floor strategy meeting, Floor Leader Kim said, "The claim by the Democratic Party that they will use the seven personnel screening criteria presented by the Moon Jae-in administration as the standard for verification is nothing short of a complete comedy," adding, "It goes without saying that President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol has scrutinized nominee Han Deok-su with even stricter standards than those of the Moon administration."
On the same day, Yoon Ho-jung, co-chair of the Democratic Party’s Emergency Response Committee, said in an interview with YTN Radio's 'News King Park Ji-hoon,' "The current presidential transition committee has never disclosed what personnel screening standards it holds. We will properly apply the personnel screening principles that have been upheld so far to the Prime Minister and future ministerial nominees who will be requested for hearings by the National Assembly," adding, "The main content of the morality screening is the seven personnel screening criteria used by the Moon Jae-in administration."
The previous day, Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Democratic Party, also said at an emergency committee meeting held in Busan, "The seven screening criteria presented by the Moon Jae-in administration are the basic standard not only for the Prime Minister nominee but also for future ministerial nominees," emphasizing, "High-ranking public officials should be scrutinized with increasingly strict standards."
The seven principles for screening high-ranking public officials, cited by the Democratic Party, were announced by the Blue House in November 2017, shortly after the 19th presidential election, and include △military service evasion △illegal wealth accumulation △tax evasion △false address registration △research misconduct △sex-related crimes △drunk driving.
In response, Floor Leader Kim said, "The seven personnel criteria were never even followed once during the Moon administration and were long ago discarded by their own hands," emphasizing, "If they want to bring up the seven criteria they themselves did not uphold, they should first offer a sincere apology and reflection on the Moon administration’s principle-less personnel appointments, Camp-Code-Democratic Party (Camcorder) appointments, and double standards."
He added, "If they think they can assert the opposition party’s presence through harsh rhetoric and constant obstruction, that is extremely anachronistic and a sign of old-fashioned politics," and criticized, "I hope they no longer present the stubborn, conservative, vested-interest politics that only degrade our politics and cause public discomfort in front of the people."
