[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, will double the fine for delayed periodic (comprehensive) vehicle inspections starting from the 14th.

According to the county on the 5th, the periodic (comprehensive) vehicle inspection system is designed to prevent traffic accidents caused by vehicle defects and to protect lives and property.

Due to amendments to the Automobile Management Act and its enforcement decree, the fine for delays within 30 days will increase from 20,000 KRW to 40,000 KRW, and the additional fine imposed every 3 days from the 31st day will increase from 10,000 KRW to 20,000 KRW.

If the delay exceeds 115 days, the fine will be significantly increased from 300,000 KRW to 600,000 KRW.

If a vehicle owner fails to comply with the inspection order for more than one year, the previous penalty was to confiscate the registration plate, but from now on, the vehicle will be subject to suspension of operation.

For passenger cars, inspections are mandatory once every 4 years after new registration, and then every 2 years thereafter. For commercial, passenger, and cargo vehicles, inspections must be conducted once a year or every 6 months depending on the vehicle type and age.

The inspection period can be checked on the vehicle registration certificate or the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Cyber Inspection Center. By applying for the inspection period notification service on the Korea Transportation Safety Authority website, related information can also be received via text message.

A county official stated, “We urge special attention to check the inspection period in advance to avoid disadvantages such as fines imposed due to delayed inspections.”
