[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is significantly increasing its support fund for revitalizing resident autonomy.
The city announced on the 5th that it has set this year's support fund for revitalizing resident autonomy at 12.1 billion KRW, an increase of 5 billion KRW compared to last year, to ensure the successful operation of resident autonomy councils.
First, 3.2 billion KRW has been allocated to a resident autonomy council-type participatory budget, where residents themselves can discover, execute, and evaluate necessary projects. This amount is 1.7 billion KRW more than the previous year and will support all 137 currently operating resident autonomy councils to help discover projects that residents can directly experience.
Additionally, 1.6 billion KRW will be provided for operating expenses essential to resident autonomy council activities, such as meeting fees, education expenses, and publicity costs, and 1.1 billion KRW will be allocated for secretary activity expenses responsible for core administrative tasks of the councils.
Five hundred million KRW has also been allocated for a project to improve the spatial structure of resident autonomy centers, aiming to renovate 17 resident autonomy center spaces.
Currently, in Incheon, resident autonomy councils operate in 137 out of 155 (88.4%) eup, myeon, and dong districts, representing the highest conversion rate to resident autonomy councils among local governments nationwide.
This year, the city plans to establish resident autonomy councils in the remaining 18 eup, myeon, and dong districts to support the operation of resident autonomy councils throughout all eup, myeon, and dong districts in Incheon.
