[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Cho Eung-cheon, Emergency Response Committee member of the Democratic Party of Korea, pointed out on the 5th regarding the stock manipulation allegations against Kim Gun-hee, wife of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, saying, "If proven true, it is a major crime. In the U.S., if acknowledged, it would lead to a life sentence."
On the same day, Cho said on KBS Radio's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strongest Current Affairs,' "Stock manipulation is a very serious crime that shakes the foundation of the capital market."
He also criticized the investigation into the alleged misuse of corporate cards by Kim Hye-kyung, wife of former Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung, saying, "Why is only the losing side of the election being investigated so swiftly? Does the winning side then receive a free pass? Is that the rule of law?"
Regarding Lee’s role in local elections, Cho expressed a negative view, saying, "He is an important asset to the party, so we cannot recklessly use him just because it’s urgent," and added, "You cannot slaughter chickens with a butcher’s knife used for cattle. If you use him recklessly, the political asset will be depleted too quickly, and we won’t be able to use him when truly needed."
About the internal criticism following former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil’s bid for Seoul mayor, Cho said, "As an emergency committee member who influences nominations, it is inappropriate to comment on nomination issues," but added, "However, I will just say that Song’s previous statements about running for Seoul, as a defeated leader in the presidential election who mainly operated in Incheon and suddenly moved his residence to Seoul, seem unnatural."
Regarding rumors that former candidate Lee supports Song Young-gil and candidate Kim Dong-yeon, Cho denied, saying, "I consider myself someone who knows Lee very well," and "Lee is not the type to hide behind the scenes and do proxy politics. He would step forward himself; that’s not the case."
Meanwhile, Cho stated on the legislative issue of the 'multi-member district system with three or more basic councilors,' "It must be done. It is a meaningful proposition that can contribute to politics, especially in this historically negative presidential election."
He continued, "This is absolutely necessary for the hope of the Republic of Korea and ultimately can lead to the victory of Korea and its people," and added, "In a way, it’s a benevolent forced passage."
