원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Small and Medium Business Corporation (Chairman Kim Hak-do, hereinafter referred to as SBC) announced on the 5th that it held an on-site communication meeting with companies in the textile and fashion sectors at the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Training Institute in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk, and began spreading awareness of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management among related small and medium-sized enterprises.
The textile and fashion industry is closely linked to environmental issues from processing to distribution, such as microplastic emissions (weaving and manufacturing), wastewater discharge (dyeing process), and disposal of excess inventory, making corporate commitment and policy support necessary for ESG management.
The meeting was attended by Chairman Kim Hak-do, Vice Chairman Seo Soon-hee of the Korea Fashion Industry Association (Chairman of Dunfield Group), Vice Chairman Kim Ki-jun of the Korea Federation of Textile Industries, and six representatives of small and medium enterprises operating in this field in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions.
Before the official start, SBC introduced policy projects to support ESG management. These include ▲expanding financial support for companies adopting eco-friendly and low-carbon facilities ▲providing ESG self-diagnosis and education to improve ESG awareness and address information shortages ▲offering ESG management guidelines and customized diagnosis and consulting support for each company. Participants shared industry difficulties expected from the introduction of ESG management and discussed support policies and institutional improvement measures.
SBC plans to regularly hold seminars and on-site meetings by region-specific industries to help strengthen the ESG competitiveness of small and medium enterprises. Chairman Kim Hak-do said, "In the future, we will promote tailored ESG management support projects such as the 'ESG Ecosystem Creation Project' targeting export companies, large company partners, and high carbon-emission companies to help small and medium enterprises respond proactively. SBC will propose ESG practice items suitable for the perspective and level of companies considering industry characteristics and prepare effective support policies to ensure that ESG management is quickly established in the field of small and medium enterprises."
