[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Musinsa announced on the 5th that it will take measures to fundamentally resolve the issue of genuine and counterfeit products so that customers can purchase overseas luxury goods with confidence.

First, it will expand partnerships with global brands that collaborate on domestic online sales and marketing. In March, it signed an online partnership with the global fashion group OTB, which operates various global brands including premium denim brand Diesel, Maison Margiela, and Marni.

Recently, it has signed domestic online sales supply contracts and established partnerships with over 30 brands, including luxury streetwear brand SUNNEI and OAMC, launched by the head designer of Supreme. Going forward, it plans to further expand partnerships with global brands and continue increasing the method of directly sourcing products from the brands.

In cases where transactions are conducted with third parties other than brand partnerships, the inspection process will be further strengthened to minimize the causes of issues.

When trading with overseas boutiques and luxury brand products, the existing three-step inspection process?▲checking the credibility and reputation of the trading company ▲verifying import-related documents ▲sample inspection through luxury product appraisal experts?will be enhanced to fundamentally block causes that could lead to genuine or counterfeit product controversies.

Additionally, in cooperation with the Trade-related Intellectual Property Protection Association (TIPA) under the Korea Customs Service, the overseas luxury goods inspection process will be significantly strengthened. Specialized inspection personnel will be deployed to conduct on-site inspections of the trader’s logistics warehouse before purchase and carry out inspections before product distribution to proceed with sales. Musinsa is currently coordinating details with TIPA and plans to sign a business agreement as early as this month.

In the event of a counterfeit product issue, a systematic response procedure will be established to minimize risk factors, including ▲requesting explanations from the relevant boutique ▲using third-party organizations such as TIPA to request appraisals from brand trademark rights holders ▲imposing sanctions on companies such as compensation for damages and penalties based on the results ▲and providing customer compensation.

A Musinsa official stated, "We will improve the inspection process to prevent the same problem from occurring again," and added, "We will continue to expand brand partnerships so that customers who use Musinsa can shop with confidence."
