[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] LG Electronics is entering the self-order kiosk market, which is growing at an average annual rate of 12.2%. Starting with the launch of a new self-order kiosk product in Korea that combines usability, design, and accessibility, the company plans to expand its presence to North America and Europe within the year.

On the 5th, LG Electronics announced that it will release the LG Kiosk (model name: 27KC3J) this month, equipped with self-ordering and payment solutions for use in food and beverage stores and other locations.

The LG Kiosk features a 27-inch (approximately 68 cm diagonal) touchscreen. Considering that self-order kiosks typically installed in stores have 22-inch or 24-inch screens, the larger display enhances visibility and provides a more spacious feel. The touchscreen uses technology that integrates a touch sensor within the LCD cell. Because the area touched and the sensor's response area coincide, the touch sensitivity and response speed are excellent.

It supports various payment methods. Customers can also choose additional features such as NFC payment or a keypad for voice menu guidance as needed. It operates without a separate PC connection. It easily integrates with store peripherals such as the Point of Sale (POS) system and Kitchen Display System (KDS), and supports a wide range of kiosk-dedicated software, which is another advantage.

LG Electronics considered accessibility issues for the newly emerging digitally marginalized groups as demand for contactless services gradually increases. It supports a low-position mode that places main menus at the bottom of the screen for customers who are short or in wheelchairs to use conveniently, and a low-vision mode for visually impaired users. Plans are in place to add voice menu guidance for totally blind users in the future.

Baek Gi-moon, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics’ ID Business Division, said, “We will lead the commercial display market by introducing various products that provide differentiated customer experiences tailored to the rapidly changing demands of the business field.”
