In Korea, English education is primarily focused on conversation skills. However, for students attending boarding schools or international schools in the United States, native-level conversational ability is essential, and as they advance in grade levels, writing high-quality essays becomes equally mandatory. Moreover, if the goal is admission to HYPSM (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT) universities, students must excel in international essay competitions, IB/AP exams, and portfolio papers.

In response, J&B Essay Consulting, LLC announced the operation of the Violet program, an essay lesson program designed for 7th to 9th-grade boarding school and international school students.

This program is a 10-month curriculum designed for students who are new to essay writing as well as those who have written many essays but have not achieved the desired results in school assignments or essay competitions. The Violet program, consisting of three levels, supports students in building a solid foundation in essay writing by following the sequence of ‘creating an outline,’ ‘writing essays,’ and ‘preparing for essay competitions,’ enabling them to be fully prepared for essay contests.

The Level I course focuses on creating an outline, known as the blueprint of essay writing. Through lessons on how to write a 5-paragraph essay divided into Macro and Micro structures, research methods for essay materials, and how to create referencing (MLA), students work together with instructors to firmly establish the essential first step of essay writing: the outline.

The Level II course aims at writing a 5-paragraph essay by concentrating on the basic structure of each paragraph. Students learn the purpose of writing the Introduction, 3 Body paragraphs, and Conclusion, and complete content tailored to the topic. Adding referencing (Chicago style), they complete a 500-700 word essay commonly required in boarding schools.

In the final Level III course, with the goal of competing in essay contests, students write a 1500-2000 word essay using topics that have actually appeared in competitions they wish to enter in the future. Additionally, the course is designed to increase the chances of winning by teaching the characteristics of award-winning essays analyzed internally by J&B and encouraging active application of these insights during actual competitions.

All courses are conducted through one-on-one consulting, with customized lesson curricula tailored to address each participating student’s essay writing weaknesses to maximize learning efficiency.

A representative from J&B Essay Consulting, LLC stated, “This lesson, designed to allow students to follow an objective, systematic procedure for essay writing like a math formula, helps students gain confidence in essay writing and enables them to independently write any type of essay in the future.”

J&B Essay Consulting, LLC is an essay-specialized consulting firm located in Fairfax County, USA, operating five programs for 7th to 12th graders (Essay Lessons, Boarding School Admission Essays, Essay Competitions, College Admission Portfolios, and Admission Essays).
