[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) sent a ‘Love Snack Truck’ to Uljin-gun, the area affected by the East Coast wildfire, for two days from the 9th to the 10th to support recovery efforts.

To offer some comfort and encouragement to the disaster victims suffering from the wildfire, as well as firefighters, soldiers, command center staff, and volunteers working hard on-site to extinguish the fire, the district gathered the hearts of Seongdong-gu residents and provided over 3,000 snack sets including coffee, tea, and hot dogs to Uljin-gun.

The ‘Love Snack Truck’ that departed from Seongdong-gu arrived at the Uljin Forest Aviation Management Office on the morning of the 9th, providing a brief respite for helicopter pilots and soldiers involved in wildfire suppression. In the afternoon, it moved to the disaster site command center to offer sweet coffee and snacks to about 1,200 fire suppression volunteers, and the next day, it went to the evacuation shelters to share the pain of Uljin-gun residents.

Despite the tough conditions due to continuous firefighting efforts, smiles blossomed around the snack truck. Soldiers and volunteers who received snacks took group ‘certification shots’ in front of a banner that read, ‘Let’s overcome this together? From all residents of Seoul Special City Seongdong-gu.’

A soldier named Kim OO, who was deployed on-site and revealed that he lives in Geumho-dong, Seongdong-gu, said, “As a soldier working hard to suppress the wildfire in Uljin-gun, I was very pleased and surprised to unexpectedly receive the snack truck from Seongdong-gu. I will work even harder to fight the fire to repay the encouragement from many people.”

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the residents of Uljin who suffered damage from this wildfire. I hope that these small snacks, filled with the hearts of our residents, provide some comfort.” He also added, “I hope the soldiers and firefighters working hard to extinguish the wildfire enjoy the snacks and gain strength to safely complete their tasks.”

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is recruiting two capable local youths to participate as youth committee members of the Youth Development Committee until the end of March. Youth committee members will actively participate in youth policies to promote the rights and interests of young people.

The Youth Development Committee is an organization responsible for deliberation and consultation on plans for local youth development, support for youth activities, and welfare improvement. Last September, the district revised the ordinance on youth development and activity support in Jungnang-gu to appoint youth beneficiaries as committee members.

Applicants must be youths aged 14 to 24 residing in Jungnang-gu who have a strong interest in youth policies and a rich record of related activities. To apply, download the application form from the Jungnang-gu Office website, fill it out, and submit it via email to the person in charge. If online application is difficult, applicants can visit the Sports and Youth Division of Jungnang-gu Office to apply in person.

Selected youth committee members will serve for two years from the date of appointment and receive a certificate of appointment issued by the mayor. They will also receive various incentives such as meeting attendance allowances, volunteer points, and commendations for exemplary youth participation.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Youth, who are the main agents of policy, will directly participate as committee members to create policies that meet the perspectives of young people. We look forward to the active participation of creative youths with diverse experiences.”

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) will provide employment incentive payments to unemployed youth from March 14 to May 31 to help stabilize their livelihoods.

Although the district paid employment incentives to 1,202 unemployed youths in two rounds last year, there are still young people struggling with employment difficulties due to COVID-19, so the district decided to continue support this year.

Eligible applicants are unemployed youths aged 19 to 34 as of the announcement date (March 14), residing in Geumcheon-gu according to their resident registration, who have not passed two years since their final education (dropout, dismissal, completion, graduation) and are not enrolled in employment insurance.

Even those enrolled in employment insurance can apply if they work 26 hours or less per week or are short-term workers for three months or less. However, university (graduate) students, students on leave, those serving in the military, and recipients of unemployment benefits are excluded.

Applicants wishing to receive support can apply online through the Seoul Youth Portal. Required documents include a resident registration abstract, employment insurance qualification history, and final education graduation certificate (or completion certificate). Short-term workers must also submit a labor contract.

Selected applicants will receive 500,000 KRW worth of Geumcheon G-Valley Love Gift Certificates (mobile) sequentially.

Detailed eligibility requirements and application methods can be found on the Seoul Youth Portal or the Geumcheon-gu website under ‘Notices and Announcements.’

Yoo Sung-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope the employment incentive payments help young people in their job search and stabilize their lives. We will continue to implement various policies tailored to the needs of youths preparing for employment.”
