[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Company's 'Ioniq 5' and Kia's 'EV6' were selected as the most competitive vehicles in a recent comparison evaluation of five SUV electric vehicles conducted by the German automotive magazine 'Auto Zeitung.'


According to industry sources on the 25th, Auto Zeitung conducted an evaluation in its recent issue on five models fiercely competing in the European electric vehicle market: Ioniq 5, EV6, Polestar 2, Tesla Model Y, and Mercedes-Benz EQB. The evaluation covered five categories: ▲body ▲driving comfort ▲powertrain ▲driving dynamics ▲eco-friendliness/economy.


The Ioniq 5 ranked first in the driving comfort category among the five evaluation items, placed second in driving dynamics and eco-friendliness/economy, and achieved the highest total score of 3,222 points, surpassing Polestar 2 (3,164 points) and Tesla Model Y (3,157 points), thereby gaining recognition for its overall product excellence.


In particular, the Ioniq 5 received the highest scores in five out of eight detailed subcategories in the driving comfort section, including ▲ergonomics ▲perceived noise ▲interior noise measurement ▲front seat comfort ▲rear seat comfort.


Additionally, in the driving dynamics category, it received evaluation scores surpassing competing models in ▲driving stability ▲traction, and in the eco-friendliness/economy category, it earned high marks in ▲equipment ▲warranty, confirming its competitiveness.


Auto Zeitung commented, “The Ioniq 5 applies Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP, showing overall harmony,” adding, “Among these, driving stability and economy are top-level, and it even provides driving enjoyment, placing it at the top in the SUV electric vehicle segment where top-class models are gathered.”


The EV6 ranked first in the eco-friendliness/economy category among the five evaluation items and placed second in the powertrain category, achieving a total score of 3,178 points and ranking second overall behind the Ioniq 5.

Looking at the detailed evaluation results of the EV6, it received high scores in the eco-friendliness/economy category for ▲fuel cost ▲equipment ▲warranty. In the powertrain category, the transmission/gear ratio item received a perfect score, and ▲E-range ▲total range achieved the highest scores.


Auto Zeitung praised the EV6 as a “customer-friendly vehicle” and emphasized its 800V ultra-fast charging system, stating, “It is a technology that can charge the battery from 10% to 80% within 20 minutes and provides optimal charging performance.”


Both the Ioniq 5 and EV6 have received multiple favorable reviews not only in this evaluation but also in the European market.


The Ioniq 5 ranked first in the electric vehicle category in January in the 'Best Imported Car' by Germany’s leading automotive media ‘Auto Bild,’ and in November last year, it was finally selected as the ‘2022 Germany Car of the Year,’ surpassing high-performance and luxury models.


Additionally, the Ioniq 5 has established itself as one of the best electric vehicles in Europe by sweeping three categories?▲2021 Car of the Year ▲Mid-size Commercial Vehicle ▲Premium Electric Vehicle?at the New Car Awards by the UK automotive media ‘Auto Express.’


The EV6 also demonstrated high completeness and product excellence by being selected as ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Electric SUV of the Year’ at the prestigious UK automotive awards ‘2022 What Car Awards’ in January.
