[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City is taking steps to support the safe and comfortable community life of residents in aging apartment complexes.

On the 25th, Gwangju City announced that it will promote the ‘Aging Small and Medium-sized Apartment Facility Improvement Project’ targeting apartment complexes with exclusive areas of 85㎡ or less that have been completed for more than 20 years.

This project was initiated to improve the quality of life for residents of apartment complexes in the area by providing subsidies to apartments that require repairs such as rooftop waterproofing, road resurfacing, and exterior wall crack repairs due to aging, but are struggling with self-maintenance.

From September to November last year, the city conducted a demand survey with autonomous districts, receiving applications from a total of 186 complexes. Considering the ratio of aging complexes and the project funds secured by each district, the support amount was determined for each autonomous district.

The total subsidy to be provided this time is 1.35 billion KRW. Among the complexes that applied during the demand survey, each autonomous district will select project targets through its own review process, and Gwangju City plans to accept subsidy applications and disburse funds by the end of April.

Jung Hyun-yoon, head of the city’s Housing Policy Division, said, “We will strive to promote the project to help create a pleasant living environment for residents of aging apartments who need facility improvements and to enhance housing welfare for low-income residents.”
