[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seocho-gu will operate the ‘Seocho-gu 4th Industrial Software College’ starting in March to nurture young talent and alleviate youth employment concerns in the digital era.

This education program was prepared by the district to resolve the mismatch between local companies struggling to find talent needed in the 4th industrial era and young people facing difficulties in finding jobs.

The ‘Seocho-gu 4th Industrial Software College’ consists of blockchain and coding courses. This reflects the results of a survey conducted last year targeting startups and job-seeking youth within Seocho-gu.

Both companies and young people ranked blockchain and coding as the top priority courses. Companies selected these as the most desired training to hire talent with job competencies required in the 4th industrial revolution, while youth responded that these were the courses they most wanted to take among 4th industrial-related lectures.

The education will be conducted over a total of 18 weeks from March to July, primarily through face-to-face classes, but may be replaced with online classes depending on the spread of COVID-19.

Regarding the curriculum, blockchain will cover basic theory and business model development, while coding will be subdivided into Python and Java courses.

All courses are designed with professional content so that participants can be immediately deployed in corporate work. Each detailed course runs twice a week for 9 weeks, with each session lasting 6 hours.

The recruitment target is youth aged 19 to 34, selecting a total of 90 participants: 40 for the blockchain course and 50 for the coding course. Applications can be submitted until March 11 via the Seocho-gu Office website or QR code using a Google Form, allowing applicants to apply for one or both courses.

The final selection will be conducted through 1:1 phone interviews and tests for applicants. The interview and test will cover basic knowledge of the course they wish to take, such as blockchain or coding, their major, possession of IT certifications, etc. Selected students will be individually notified.

Seo Chung-min, Head of the Child and Youth Division, said, “We will continue to strive to discover customized youth talent development programs that can be immediately deployed in the field in preparation for the 4th industrial revolution.”
