[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 24th that it will promote a support project to replace general boilers used in households with low-NOx boilers for home use, which emit less nitrogen oxides, a major air pollutant, and have higher energy efficiency, thereby reducing heating costs.
According to the city, low-NOx boilers using eco-friendly LNG as fuel can reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by about 79% compared to general boilers.
In addition, by absorbing and recycling heat wasted in exhaust gases, the energy efficiency is about 10% higher than that of general boilers, and it is known that replacing them can save up to 28% (up to 130,000 KRW annually) on heating costs.
Accordingly, Jeonju City has set the project scale to 3,450 households this year and plans to accept applications until the budget is exhausted.
The support targets are homeowners and tenants delegated by homeowners.
The replaced low-NOx boilers must be boilers with an hourly evaporation capacity of less than 0.1 tons or a heat output of less than 61,900 kcal, and must be products certified with the environmental label by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute.
In particular, Jeonju City plans to provide 100,000 KRW to general households and 600,000 KRW to low-income households such as basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups when replacing with low-NOx boilers.
Applicants can check the announcement on the Jeonju City website, purchase and sign a contract at a boiler sales agency, and fill out the subsidy application form. Afterwards, the agency will visit or mail the application to the Jeonju City Clean Air Energy Division.
However, since installation may be restricted in places where condensate piping installation is not possible, applicants must check the installation feasibility with the boiler sales agency before applying, and subsidies are only provided for boilers installed this year.
