[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in on the 24th stated, "The spread of Omicron is very rapid and has become the dominant strain," and instructed a coordinated response.
President Moon said, "The number of confirmed cases can surge in a short period," and emphasized, "Speed is most important. The government should swiftly switch to the preemptively prepared Omicron response system and respond in a coordinated manner."
He continued, "The Prime Minister should take the lead in a whole-of-government effort to fully mobilize and promptly establish a new quarantine and treatment system," adding, "Please fully inform the public about the government's Omicron response measures and plans, including the new testing system and home treatment centered on local clinics and hospitals, and cooperate with medical institutions."
Furthermore, President Moon urged, "I ask the public to participate in vaccination, wear masks, and refrain from travel and gatherings during the Seollal holiday to help respond to Omicron."
Meanwhile, after completing a 6-night, 8-day overseas trip and returning on the 22nd, President Moon will work from home until the 25th in accordance with quarantine guidelines.
