The former Chungnam Police Station Gymnasium (Sangmugwan) located on Bomun-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon, will be designated as a National Registered Cultural Heritage. The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 5th that it will collect opinions from various sectors for a month and finalize the registration decision after a review by the Cultural Heritage Committee. The building was constructed in 1963 with economic support from the United States under the name "Chungcheongnam-do Police School." It was built on a 522㎡ scale utilizing the remaining foundation of the "Chungnam Mudeokjeon" site, which was established during the Japanese colonial period. Mudeokjeon was a facility built by the Japanese to hold martial arts competitions and other events. The Cultural Heritage Administration stated, "It has a unique architectural history that reflects the post-Korean War era," and evaluated that "it has sufficient preservation value as a modern cultural heritage, especially considering its use as a sports facility by the local community."
