[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) signed a business agreement on the 21st with the Korea Health Management Association Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch (Head Kim Gye-hwan) to support health checkups for North Korean defectors and promote their health and living stability.
According to Seo-gu on the 22nd, through this agreement, the two organizations agreed to ▲ establish a cooperative system for health checkups and health promotion for North Korean defectors in the district ▲ exchange information and cooperate for health promotion ▲ actively collaborate on other projects recognized as necessary by both organizations.
Kim Gye-hwan, head of the Korea Health Management Association Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch, stated, “We will strive to alleviate the economic burden of medical expenses and contribute to health promotion through health checkup support services for North Korean defectors in the region.”
A Seo-gu official said, “Health is the most important factor for the stable settlement of North Korean defectors in the local community, and through the agreement with the Korea Health Management Association Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch, a foundation has been laid for them to lead a healthy life. It is very reassuring to have an institution that sincerely conducts checkups for North Korean defectors in the district.”
Meanwhile, the number of North Korean defectors currently residing in Seo-gu, Gwangju, has reached 69.
