SM, Comprehensive Content Project Covering Albums and Performances

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] SM Entertainment (SM) is launching a comprehensive content project for the new year.

On the 10th, SM announced the start of the comprehensive content project encompassing performances, albums, and exhibitions titled ‘SMTOWN 2022 : SMCU EXPRESS’.

The ‘SMTOWN 2022’ project, under the concept of ‘SMCU EXPRESS,’ expands the artists’ worldview newly named as the ‘Metaversal Origin Story’ by Chief Producer Lee Soo-man, based on SMCU (SM Culture Universe). It offers a comprehensive experience of future content in the metaverse as envisioned by Producer Lee Soo-man and SM, presenting not only performances but also pre-released albums and exhibitions.

The ‘SMTOWN LIVE 2022 : SMCU EXPRESS@KWANGYA’ scheduled for the 1st of next month has been held in major cities worldwide since 2008, setting various records. In 2012, through the virtual nation proclamation ceremony, SMTOWN LIVE officially launched SM’s super-large virtual nation MUSIC NATION SMTOWN. This time, all artists gather in the virtual space called ‘KWANGYA’ (Kwangya) at the ‘SMCU EXPRESS STATION,’ consolidating the performance content pursued by SM.

SM stated, "This concert is planned as a free performance to comfort and bring hope to fans worldwide who have been exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. We expect it to be a great gift to global music fans," adding, "It will be broadcast worldwide via YouTube, the newly launched Beyond LIVE dedicated global platform, and LG U+ Idol Live app/web."

Prior to this, the ‘2021 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU EXPRESS’ album, releasing on the 27th, is SMTOWN’s winter album presented for the first time in 10 years since 2011. It features SM artists active worldwide, with team songs and diverse member combinations, and pre-orders are available from the 10th.

Additionally, the media content exhibition ‘SMTOWN EXPERIENCE : PLAY@KWANGYA,’ starting on December 30th, will utilize the LED billboard on the first floor of SM’s new Seongsu office building to play video content that provides an overview of this project.
