‘Transparent Busan’ One Step Closer... Busan City’s Comprehensive Integrity Rating Rises One Level Compared to Last Year

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan City received a comprehensive integrity grade of 3 in the ‘2021 Public Institution Integrity Evaluation’ conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.

Busan City's comprehensive integrity grade was 4 in both 2019 and 2020. The grade of 3 in 2021 is an improvement of one level compared to the previous year.

The public institution integrity evaluation is conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission through internal and external surveys to assess the integrity of each institution.

The evaluation is carried out annually from August to November targeting public institutions nationwide.

In the 2021 evaluation, Busan City maintained its internal integrity grade at 2, the same as the previous year.

In external integrity, evaluated by civil petitioners, Busan City improved from grade 4 in 2019 and grade 5 in 2020 to grade 3.

The Busan City side stated, “The improvement in integrity seems to reflect the corruption prevention activities of the Busan City Audit Committee and the citizens’ expectations for the Busan city administration launched last April.”

The Busan City Audit Committee is the comprehensive organization for audit, anti-corruption, and integrity.

In September 2021, Han Sang-woo, a former member of the Board of Audit and Inspection, was appointed as the chairman of the Audit Committee, achieving results such as ▲Award for excellence in operating the Public Service Ethics System from the Ministry of Personnel Management ▲Improvement in the Board of Audit and Inspection’s self-audit activity evaluation from C to B ▲Selection as an excellent institution in handling audit reports by the Board of Audit and Inspection.

Han Sang-woo, chairman of the Busan City Audit Committee, said, “We will strive to implement transparent audit administration with expertise to become a Busan City trusted by citizens.”
