[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] The National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) announced on the 6th that it recently obtained ISO 45001 certification, expanding the scope from last year's headquarters certification of the international standard Occupational Health and Safety Management System (ISO 45001) to include six regional headquarters and the Human Resources Development Institute. ISO 45001 is an international standard certification system designed to systematically manage organizational safety and health to prevent various risk factors and industrial accidents in advance.
The NHIS has established a management policy prioritizing safety management. Through strengthening dedicated safety management organizations and hiring specialized personnel, it has systematically conducted various safety management activities such as risk assessments, safety education, and the operation of the 4·4·4 Safety Inspection Day, steadily reducing the occurrence of industrial accidents. As a result of these efforts, the NHIS's occupational health and safety operations have been verified through certification by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), recognizing that they are systematically and fairly operated according to international standards.
Kim Yong-ik, Director of NHIS, stated, “As an institution responsible for the healthy lives of the people, we have been externally recognized for our safety-first management through the objective verification by the ISO organization. Ahead of the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act in January next year, we will operate the Occupational Health and Safety Management System more solidly and systematically to create a safer and healthier workplace for all citizens using the NHIS and all employees.”
