According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on the 24th, Francisca Montes Suzano, a resident of Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental, died at her home on the 20th.

Born as a native in the southern Negros region during the Spanish colonial period in 1897, Suzano celebrated her 124th birthday on September 11 this year.

She had 14 children, and her eldest daughter is currently 101 years old.

According to Kabankalan City, Suzano was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living person until her death.

Rodolfo Oldeans, a member of the Philippine House of Representatives, proposed awarding her 1 million pesos (approximately 23 million KRW) to honor her "monumental achievement" on her 124th birthday this year.

The exact cause of Suzano's death is unknown.

According to the Daily Mail, she was reported to have shown no symptoms of COVID-19.

Her great-grandson stated that Suzano was neither ill nor suffering from any disease at the time of her death.

The previous official longevity record was set by French woman Jeanne Calment, who passed away at the age of 122 in September 1997.

Additionally, two months before Suzano's death, a tribal chief from Eritrea, Africa, reportedly died at the age of 127, according to his tribe.

The current world's oldest living person is Japanese grandmother Kane Tanaka, who is 118 years old this year.
