[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 18th, the Ministry of Unification expressed its intention to strive for the "substantial improvement of human rights for North Korean residents" in relation to the adoption of the UN North Korea Human Rights Resolution condemning human rights violations in North Korea.
An official from the Ministry of Unification stated, "We will work to ensure the resolution's purpose is implemented and to achieve substantial improvement in the human rights of North Korean residents."
The official explained, "The government's basic position is to work together with the UN and the international community to ensure the human rights of North Korean residents are substantially improved," adding, "Based on this, we participated again this year in the consensus adoption of the resolution, following last year."
The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly held a meeting on the 17th (local time) at the UN Headquarters in New York and adopted the North Korea Human Rights Resolution by consensus without a vote.
