[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The occupancy rate of severe COVID-19 patient beds in Gyeonggi Province has exceeded 75%.
On the 18th, Gyeonggi Province announced that as of the 17th, with an additional 967 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province, 201 out of 263 severe patient beds (occupancy rate 76.4%) were in use, reducing available beds from 72 to 62.
The 75% occupancy rate for intensive care beds is one of the indicators for the government’s emergency plan (Circuit Breaker) to temporarily halt the phased return to normal life.

To prepare for the shortage of treatment beds, the province plans to secure an additional 465 beds dedicated to moderate and severe patients at five tertiary general hospitals and 34 general hospitals in the province by the 26th of this month.
Furthermore, by the 3rd of next month, 43 more beds will be secured, bringing the total to 508 beds sequentially.
Meanwhile, as of midnight on the same day, the first-dose vaccination rate in Gyeonggi Province stands at 82.7%, and the full vaccination completion rate is 79.1%.
