[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 25th that it is operating the ‘Dalbitnuri Environmental School’ program to enhance residents' ability to respond to the climate crisis and their environmental empathy.

The Dalbitnuri Environmental School program, in collaboration with environmental organizations, has conducted three programs until this month to help participants realize the seriousness of the climate crisis and develop adaptability to the changing environment: ▲ Komjirak Workshop ▲ Upcycling Classes ▲ Visiting Environmental School.

Next month, the ▲ Visiting EM School program is scheduled to take place.

First, the Komjirak Workshop is an experiential education program for elementary school students in grades 1 to 4, designed to help children recognize the seriousness of the climate crisis and develop adaptability to the changing environment.

The Upcycling Classes, planned for adults interested in upcycling, are held on the second and third Thursdays of each month (March to October). These classes go beyond recycling to add value through reuse, providing an opportunity to rethink the value of items and promote the zero-waste movement.

The Visiting Environmental School program visits local children’s centers within Seo-gu to provide educational opportunities to students with limited access to environmental education, thereby expanding environment-related education linked to daily life and encouraging voluntary participation in climate actions.

The Visiting EM School program offers specialized environmental education on EM (Effective Microorganisms), which is excellent for improving household odors and water pollution. The program is designed to foster family bonding by making EM-related items that can be easily used at home.

A student who participated in the Visiting Environmental School said, “Through cooking practice, I learned ways to reduce food waste, and through field trips, I experienced resource circulation. The hands-on educational content made it much easier to understand the material.”

An official from Seo-gu stated, “The ‘Dalbitnuri Environmental School’ program will invigorate residents’ daily lives and contribute to enhancing environmental empathy. Next year, we will further expand environmental education by operating programs such as vegan and zero-waste initiatives.”
