[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Electronics announced on the 6th that it will hold the 'Samsung AI Forum 2021' online on December 1-2, inviting AI scholars and experts to share the latest AI research achievements.
Participants can register for the forum on the Samsung AI Forum website until the day of the event, and registrants can receive schedule notifications and submit questions online. The event will be live-streamed through Samsung Electronics' YouTube channel.
On the first day of the forum, hosted by the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, various AI technologies will be discussed under the theme of 'AI Research for Tomorrow,' covering a wide range of fields from basic AI research to applied research in new materials and semiconductors.
The forum will begin with an opening address by Kim Ki-nam, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics, followed by a keynote speech by Professor Yoshua Bengio of the University of Montreal. Technical sessions will then cover ▲ scalable and sustainable AI computing ▲ AI for scientific discovery ▲ and trustworthy computer vision.
Professor Bengio and Jin Kyo-young, President of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, will serve as co-chairs of this forum. Professor Bengio, a distinguished scholar who received the 'Turing Award' in 2018, known as the Nobel Prize in AI, was appointed as a 'Samsung AI Professor' last year.
During the technical sessions, global scholars and research leaders from the Advanced Institute of Technology will present the current status and vision of AI research, and AI-specialized startups will share the latest AI technology trends and real-world business application models.
Additionally, the 'Samsung AI Researcher Award' ceremony will be held to discover outstanding young researchers in the AI field. Established last year, the Samsung AI Researcher Award is open to researchers under the age of 35 both domestically and internationally.
On the second day, hosted by Samsung Research, the forum will share directions for future AI technology development that will significantly impact our lives under the theme 'AI in the Human World.'
Seung Hyun-joon, President of Samsung Research, will deliver a welcome address, followed by a keynote speech by Professor Leslie Valiant of Harvard University, who founded PAC learning, the foundation of machine learning, and received the 'Turing Award' in 2010.
Daniel Lee, Vice President and Head of Samsung Research Global AI Center, will conduct a panel discussion with the speakers on 'Future Prospects and Considerations in Various AI Fields,' and there will be a session where Samsung Electronics' domestic and international AI research centers present their recent research status.
President Seung said, "I hope the Samsung AI Forum will be an opportunity to understand the direction of AI technology development and the smarter products enabled by AI technology applications," adding, "I look forward to many people interested in AI participating in this online forum."
