[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (Gong-su-cheo) held a personnel committee meeting to select additional prosecutors. This is to complete the recruitment and accelerate the handling of remaining cases.

On the morning of the 1st, Gong-su-cheo held the personnel committee meeting at its Gwacheon office to select prosecutor candidates to recommend to the President. According to the Gong-su-cheo Act, prosecutors are finally appointed by the President after being recommended by the personnel committee. The committee can recommend up to twice the number of planned appointments.

In the first recruitment in April, Gong-su-cheo selected 13 prosecutors, about half of the quota (23 people, excluding the chief and deputy chief). They plan to fill the remaining 10 positions (2 chief prosecutors and 8 regular prosecutors). Until last month, candidates were narrowed down to 3 chief prosecutors and 24 regular prosecutors through document screening and interviews. Among them, final candidates will be selected within twice the number of planned appointments and recommended to the President. The final appointment is expected to take place within this month.

Kim Jin-wook, head of Gong-su-cheo, said in his opening remarks at the personnel committee meeting, "I hope this will be a time to share opinions on who is suitable from the perspective of discovering substantive truth and protecting the human rights of those involved in cases," adding, "I hope to fill the prosecutor quota and further accelerate investigations."
