[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] Jeonnam Gurye-gun (Governor Kim Sunho) announced on the 28th that the shipment of Taechu persimmons has begun from 20 farms covering 12 hectares within the jurisdiction.
The Taechu persimmons shipped from Gurye are known for their high sugar content, abundant juice, crisp texture, and refreshing aftertaste.
Additionally, the thin skin allows them to be eaten whole, which has received a positive response from consumers.
Although they boast a superior taste compared to other persimmons, they have a short storage period, making them a very rare variety that can only be enjoyed during the harvest season.
Taechu persimmons are a variety that is difficult to cultivate due to complicated cultivation techniques and high sweetness, which attracts many harmful animals, making it hard for farmers to easily approach.
Accordingly, the county plans to make Taechu persimmons a major production area through cultivation technique education tailored to the variety's characteristics and area expansion.
Kim Sunho, Governor of Gurye-gun, said, "We will focus on strengthening farmers' capabilities through continuous support and education to improve the quality of Taechu persimmons," and added, "We applaud the hard work of the farmers who led the harvest despite the tough agricultural conditions."
